Sunday 04/06/06

Am woken by a very bright sunrise at 4.45 am. A powercut occurs at 5.26 am, which we find out about later, when all the electrical clocks turn out to be on the blink. The search for the missing fishermen has been scaled down after the wreck of their boat was located to the north of Skye. The liferings of the boat were found 35 miles away, in Loch Broom, northwest of Ullapool. The weather is grey and misty, with a force 3 wind. At 4.30 pm, the lighthouse boat comes into port. It carries a helicopter on deck. The sailing yacht Scorpio comes in under windpower at the same time. Four guests come to stay: a German girl with her mum and a Swedish couple. Everybody is very disappointed that everything is shut on Sunday. Heard that before, didn't I. Dinner was tatties [potato mash] and mince, with green cabbage. Rhubarb crumble with custard as a sweet. At 8pm, the MCS Lenie comes into port; she is a small tug. The evening here remains very peaceful and calm, with reflections in the water.

Such a calm place you are in. Sorry they haven't found the lost fishermen.
